Thermography Breast Exams are an up and coming way of replacing Mammograms. Every women is at risk for breast cancer these days. It is on the rise in younger women and not your "grandmother's disease" anymore. In the 1950's it was 1 in every 20 women ages 50 and up. Today it is 1 in every 8 women and as low as age early 20's. We must take time to do self exams and make those appointments to be checked by a physician.
I have talked in the past about self exams. As these are good for finding the tumors, by the time you find one on your own, it would have to be about 1" in diameter. That means it's already well advanced. So yes, finding it within the time span of one exam and another is important, but so is using technology to find it before you do. Meaning it would be even smaller and easier to treat.
What choice do you have when it comes to the detection device used? Here's a few tid bits on each machine and what it does.
Your typical Mammogram is in-fact an X-ray machine. Plus the painful (to some women, but not to all) squishing of your chest is something that scares many women away. I can say from personal experience it wasn't something I would want to do every day... but once a year, it was tolerable. Also, the x-ray itself can be very limited. Especially in pre-menopausal women or women taking hormone replacement therapies. In most cases an ultra sound or biopsy of the area is done after the Mammogram to get a better look at the suspicious area. Over the years there has also been concern with too many x-rays causing cancer in of itself.
Another thing to take into consideration is what your insurance will cover and at what age. Be informed. Call you insurance company and ask if they have an age limit on preventative testing and which type of testing whether it be Mammo's or Thermo's they cover. You may be surprised to find out they cover both!
So what is Thermology? It has been developed over the last 36 years and is just now making an impact in the medical industry as far as a real option for women. There is no compression or physical touching of the women's breasts in any way. It is also a non x-ray treatment eliminating the unnecessary need of radiation. An infrared camera takes pictures of the breast tissue. The camera detects where there is more blood flow and metabolism of cells. Since cancer cells rely on blood flow, they can be spotted right away with this camera. This form of detection is HIGHLY accurate.
Thermology is so advanced that it not only finds cancer cells forming before a regular mammogram or a self exam, but can detect pre-cancerous changes in tissue as well. Finding it before it even starts! Thermology is also risk free to the patient. So please take this form of treatment into consideration when making your next appointment. Check with you local homeopathic doctor's offices, and some hospitals, to see if this form of scanning is available. If this form of treatment is available to you, please go get tested. No matter your age!
Until there is a cure for cancer, or we talk more openly about our unhealthy lifestyles and chemicals in our food and beauty products, then early detection is our best answer.
