What happen to the old fashion days of making our dinner on our own? Oh yes, we are to busy. But are you to busy to be sick? Are you to busy to fight some disease in your family and make numerous trips to the doctor? I am.

Product testing by the Breast Cancer Fund has uncovered bisphenol A, the estrogenic chemical linked to breast cancer in lab studies, in canned foods marketed directly to young kids. BPA in Kids' Canned Food, the Breast Cancer Fund tested six different canned foods marketed to and consumed by kids:• Annie's Homegrown Cheesy Ravioli
• Campbell's Disney Princess Cool Shapes, Shaped Pasta with Chicken in Chicken Broth
• Campbell's Spaghettios with Meatballs
• Campbell's Toy Story Fun Shapes, Shaped Pasta with Chicken in Chicken Broth
• Chef Boyardee Whole Grain Pasta, Mini ABC's & 123's with Meatballs
• Earth's Best Organic Elmo Noodlemania Soup
Every food sample tested positive for BPA, with Campbell's Disney Princess and Toy Story soups testing the highest.
The levels of BPA we found in these canned foods marketed to children are of great concern because BPA disrupts the body's delicate hormonal systems. While a child-sized serving of these foods may result in BPA exposure at a level of concern, the repeated servings of canned soups, pastas, vegetables, fruits that a child eats in a week, in a year, and throughout her developing years, are what drive our Cans Not Cancer campaign.
The Breast Cancer Fund has also listed on their site a chart, in which you can see the BPA levels, where the cans were purchased and the company who produces the food. You can download the PDF file here for full details on their studies.
So what's an alternative to canned food? Real food. Simple as that. Make up some pasta and home made mac and cheese. With real cheese. Veggies, fruit, or dried fruit. Even those fruit roll-ups are loaded with preservatives. Did you know you can make all that yourself with a simple food dehydrator? Cut up some fruit, place it on the dehydrator and let it run a few hours. Even while you are away at work. It's a great snack for the kids. Drying out the fruit brings out the natural sugars. They will love it.
Get out grandma's old cook books and learn how to use that crock pot. Make your own soups. Make lots of it and freeze it if your child won't eat it every day. Come one. We can change the way we eat if we just put forth a little effort. And you will feel so much better. Physically and mentally that you made the change.

About the time this story started hitting the news, my mom opened a can of some kind of beans (not sure of the type or the manufacturer) and the coating was peeling back off the inside of the lid. She did -not- eat them. She saved the lid and the label and said she was going to call the company, but I don't know if she ever did. It really makes you wonder if some of our health problems and obesity is because of the chemicals we're exposed to every day, but who can afford to eat fresh, natural, organic food all the time?
Funny thing is... you can! So many fresh veggies you can grow yourself. Even if you don't have the room you can do pots on a deck, in a basement, anywhere really. It doesn't all have to be the most expensive "organic" foods. Some fruits don't have to be organic such as an orange, as the pesticides don't penetrate through the skins. It's learning what you can and can't do. Make the best choices when you can. Milks, canned food, and frozen foods, are a must that need to come out of everyone's diet. And yes, you hit it on the head, our health problems and obeisity are dirrectly related to what we eat. High Fructose Corn Syrup is killing our nation. Other countries don't use it. It has proven in many studies to grow tumors on test subjects. It also suppresses your feeling of being full. So you eat more. It causes cravings. DONT listent to the news where they say it's natural because it's corn. When was the last time your body processed corn? It doesn't. So it can't process it in a sugar form. The best thing you can do for yourself and your family is to stay on top of latest information with foods. Just eating whatever the companies make you or process for you is destroying the only body we have without question. And your mom should turn in that can. Tell the companies.
