His Food, Her Food, & Community Food

Week one and two are completed for the your food, my food, experiment.

Week one was really good. We went shopping and separated the grocery cart into two halves. His yogurt, her yogurt, his milk, her milk, her veggies, his veggies, and her fruit and his fruit.

Now into week two and having a few left overs and condiments in the fridge, it did not end up looking this neat (this is my drawer in week one). We then came to realize we needed individual drawers, shelves, and the shelves within the door.

This week proved to be another adventure as we proceeded to clean out the refrigerator, moving shelves around and made room for two half gallons of milk, yogurt and cottage cheese containers and all the other different purchases. It even went as far as the pantry. His side, left, my side right. This is for our couscous and whole wheat noodles, cans of tuna and chicken.

With equal budgets we sure do buy a lot of different things. I am not one to prepare food where he enjoys it. Notice the pre-made salad in my drawer. (Only $3.99). It contained raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, mixed greens, walnuts, cranberries, and was so delicious. This week I have tried to purchase all those things and it was quite a bit more expensive, but hoping to get more than one salad out of the deal.

So what makes a community food? We are still sharing such items as meats. We purchased chicken, steaks, and veggies to put on the smoker grill with veggie Kabobs. My husband grills everything at one time, lets it cool, and separates it into baggies for lunches for the week. This does not come into the equal budget amount.

So if you are having a hard time with weight loss and making healthy choices at the grocery store because of a spouse or even the little ones, there is no reason why you can not separate or budget some money for items which will help you in your weight loss. Make a shelf of your own and marker your name on it. And yes, even at dinner time, if it means you have to sit down with a different meal, that's what you do. Believe me, over time, your family will start to eat like you as they see the changes in your physical body and your energy and attitude. Good healthy food is the key to a healthy lifestyle!
